Triaging items with duplicates

Resolve duplicate copies before you triage, so you only review each item once.

Last updated About 4 hours ago

When the same item sits in more than one file, as it often does with a Google Vault or Takeout export, or a Sent folder and an Inbox, RedactBox finds the copies for you. Resolve them before you start triaging and you only review each item once.

This article is the order of work. For every control in the duplicates panel, see Duplicate Detection.

Resolve duplicates first

  1. Upload every file for the request. RedactBox looks for copies as each file imports.

  2. Open the duplicates panel. A banner above the list says how many items appear more than once. Click Review duplicates, or open Tools β€Ί Manage Duplicates.

  3. Check the scan results. The first step shows Groups with copies and Extra copies to remove. Click Next.

  4. Review the groups. Each group shows the copy that will be kept, marked Kept original, and the copies that will go to the trash. Untick any group you want to skip, or click a row to preview it.

  5. Confirm. Tick Also approve the original if you want each kept copy approved in the same step, so you do not triage it again. Then click Resolve.

  6. Triage the rest as normal. Only one copy of each item is left to decide on.

What you see while triaging

  • N copies. A chip beside an item that still has unresolved copies. Click it to see the group and resolve it there.

  • Original. The copy that will be kept.

  • Needs duplicate review. Add this filter in the filter panel to list only items with unresolved copies, or set it to is not to hide them.

Choosing which copy is kept

By default RedactBox keeps the most complete copy (Smart pick). You can change this to the newest or oldest copy, and choose whether kept copies are approved automatically, in Duplicate Detection Settings.

Good to know

  • Nothing is deleted. Resolved copies go to the trash and are left out of exports. The Resolved tab in the panel undoes a group.

  • New uploads are checked too. If a later file brings another copy of an item you already resolved, the group comes back for a second look.
